for it to be upscale,” said Dave Zanley, project architect
from Yops & Wilkie, A.I.A. of Wyandotte, where he also
serves as the firm’s Associate in charge of design.
“From day one, our directive was to make the facility
impressive; in fact to be the new standard of development
in Taylor.” That’s quite a high standard!
“This was a one-of-a-kind project for us in that it
contained many facets that were not necessarily found in projects
that we were accustomed to doing. Therefore, it presented
many interesting challenges,” said C. D. Lewis, the
general contractor from Lincoln Park. He also praised the
project as unique because it involved a harmonious blend of
mixed uses. “Just look at all that is available at Lakes
of Taylor,” he said. “An outstanding recreation
area, an upscale restaurant and bar, a versatile banquet facility
and a retail pro golf shop. Plus that amazing water feature

When you first see the impressive
brick and cedar exterior and walk through the arched entrance
bordered by tall, rounded columns, you might ask, “Is
this really a municipal golf clubhouse?”. After all,
most city-owned recreational facilities tend to be simple
in appearance and basic in function. Once inside the clubhouse
at the Lakes of Taylor Golf Course, it immediately becomes
clear that this is no run-of-the-mill facility. It would not
be stretching it too far to say this clubhouse evokes images
of a classic country club where J. R. Gotbucks relaxes after
nine holes of golf, sipping a tall cool drink while perusing
